Commento artistico-spirituale al Vangelo della IV DOMENICA DI PASQUA – ANNO A – Domenica 3O Aprile 2023

Il pastore ha un carattere simbolico religioso presso tutti i nomadi, così anche in Israele. In riferimento al culto sacrificale nell’arte mesopotamica e greca compare la figura del pastore che porta sulle spalle un agnello. Tale motivo iconografico era il più frequente m

nell’arte del cristianesimo delle origini perché traduceva il «Buon Pastore» secondo la narrazione evangelica di Giovanni (10,1-10) e per i cristiani aveva un valore pari a quello dell’immagine del Crocifisso, rappresentata a partire dal IV secolo. Nel brano giovanneo, Gesù, dopo essersi presentato come la porta dell’ovile, afferma per due volte: «Io sono il pastore buono e bello» (kalós, nell’originale in greco), riassumendo in sé la memoria dei pastori donati da Dio al suo popolo (Mosè, Davide, i profeti), ma anche l’immagine di Dio stesso, pregato e onorato come il «Pastore di Israele» (Salmo 80,2).
Il fiorentino Sandro Chia ha «scritto» un originale «Buon Pastore» (Lezionario domenicale e festivo, anno B, tra le pp. 204-205) – acquarello, matite colorate e tecnica mista su carta – commentandolo: «Ho voluto realizzare un Buon pastore lontano dalla solita iconografia, colto nel preciso istante in cui sta meditando di lasciare il gregge per andare a cercare la pecorella smarrita».
L’artista presenta il Cristo, giovane e senza barba come era raffigurato fino al VI secolo, seduto, con accanto la pecora appena ritrovata. Il pastore tiene in evidenza il bastone, reso in un intenso e largo segno nero, per esprimere l’indispensabile funzione di guidare le pecore ai pascoli e di difenderle dai rischi del «ladro» e del «brigante».
Chia sembra ispirarsi alla strofa del «Dies iræ» (Sequenza liturgica di fine XII secolo) laddove si ringrazia Dio che, spinto dall’amore, si mette alla ricerca d’ogni persona: «Venendo in cerca di me, ti sei fermato, stanco (Quærens me, sedisti lassus), mi hai redento con il supplizio della Croce» e, a nome di tutti, implora: «Non sia vana una fatica così grande!».
La pecora pende dagli occhi e dalle labbra del pastore, sente il calore della sua presenza e sta immobile, in riconoscente contemplazione perché è al sicuro. Il pittore restituisce il modo di agire del pastore: ha un rapporto strettamente personale («egli chiama ciascuna per nome»), dialoga confidenzialmente con ognuna («conoscono la sua voce») e, proprio per questo, «le pecore lo seguono». È come dire che il rapporto personale ha sempre priorità anche nel servizio pastorale.
La conclusione del brano è la folgorante sintesi del perché questo pastore è per tutti: «Io sono venuto perché abbiano la vita e l’abbiano in abbondanza». Scrive Papa Francesco: «Coraggio, non abbiate paura! Gesù è accanto a noi e, se lo riconosciamo come unico Signore della nostra vita, Egli ci tende la mano e ci afferra per salvarci».
