Ho incontrato un bambino di circa sei anni, che ride, ha i capelli d’oro e vede una pecora dentro una cassa coi buchi. Non risponde quando lo si interroga, mentre non rinuncia mai a una domanda che fa. Viene da un paese lontano, dove possiede tre vulcani dei quali spazza il camino tutte le settimane e un fiore che innaffia tutti i giorni. Per vincere la malinconia, ama guardare i tramonti a tutte le ore.

Ha una sola paura: che la pecora mangi il suo fiore. Dice: Se qualcuno ama un fiore, di cui esiste un solo esemplare in milioni e milioni di stelle, questo basta a farlo felice quando lo guarda. E lui si dice: il mio fiore è la in qualche luogo. Ma se la pecora mangia il fiore, è come se per lui tutto a un tratto, tutte le stelle si spegnessero! E non è importante questo! A lui, un bambino di sei anni, sono bastati un fiore, una stella e una cassa coi buchi per spiegarmi il segreto della felicità: l’amore.

E che cosa è l’amore?

E’ occuparsi di altro che non di sé stessi, come il lampionaio che accende e spegne il suo lampione: almeno il suo lavoro ha un senso. Quando accende il suo lampione, è come se facesse nascere una stella in più, o un fiore. Quando lo spegne addormenta il fiore o la stella. E’ una bellissima occupazione, ed è veramente utile, perché è bella. E donare il proprio tempo è il regalo più prezioso che si possa fare.

E’ interessarsi alle cose essenziali, non come i grandi che amano le cifre. Parlando loro di un nuovo amico, non si domandano mai: qual è il tono della sua voce? Quali sono i suoi giochi preferiti? Fa collezione di farfalle? Ma vi domandano: che età ha? Quanti fratelli? Quanto pesa? Quanto guadagna suo padre? Allora soltanto credono di conoscerlo. Ciò che rende una persona unica è proprio la sua voce, il suo passatempo preferito e il suo sogno: queste le cose che la fanno splendere di una bellezza in grado di stupire e far innamorare.

E’ diventare grandi e vedere le pecore dentro le casse, un elefante dentro un boa. Per non dover dire ai bambini di lasciar da parte i boa, sia di fuori che di dentro, e di applicarsi invece alla geografia, alla storia, all’aritmetica e alla grammatica. Come dire che diventar grandi significa non credere più di essere una ballerina, un poeta, un musicista, un pittore. Come dire che i sogni esistono solo nelle fiabe e crescendo non c’è più tempo né spazio per un desiderio.

E’ lasciare la certezza per l’incertezza. Anche se è assurdo cercare un pozzo, a caso, nell’immensità del deserto  vale la pena mettersi in cammino sapendo che ciò che abbellisce il deserto è che nasconde un pozzo in qualche luogo…. Una ricerca sulle tracce del mistero, certi dell’esistenza di una realtà altra che dia un senso a ogni nostra giornata.

E’ soffermarsi sulle cose importanti. A nulla vale comandare su un intero pianeta, né essere ammirati dagli altri, né possedere cinquecento milioni di stelle, né descrivere le cose eterne se poi si tralasciano quelle effimere. Quello che è importante non lo si vede. Se tu vuoi bene a un fiore che sta in una stella, è dolce la notte, guardare il cielo. Tutte le stelle sono fiorite. Davvero l’essenziale è invisibile agli occhi.

E’ trovare il tempo per relazioni autentiche, d’amore e d’amicizia. Far parlare il silenzio perché le parole sono una fonte di malintesi. Ascoltare l’altro. Scoprire il prezzo della felicità attraverso l’attesa e caricare il proprio cuore di intensità.  Sapere che amare vuol dire anche soffrire ma c’è un senso se, come la volpe, ci guadagni il colore del grano.

Il Piccolo Principe di Antoine De Saint-Exupéry esiste davvero. In una notte senza nubi fermati a guardare le stelle. Sono certa che riconoscerai il suo pianeta.
